Early Architectural Work
Albert Speer's decision to joint the Nazi party in 1931 lead to his first commissions as an architect. He was asked to renovate the house of Karl Hanke who was a Nazi official living in Berlin. Due to this work it lead to him being given more challenging tasks. He was given the task of rebuilding the party headquarters in Berlin.
He was also invited by Joseph Goebbels to rebuild the propaganda ministry in Berlin. Speer's reputation was beginning to grow and not only as a talented and creative architect but also as an efficient organiser.
In 1933 he was asked to design the decoration for the Nazi Party Rally at Nuremberg. His design of the giant eagle that dominated the Zeppelin Field impressed Hitler himself.
Speers work began to come to the notice of Hitler. IN 1933 the German Leader ordered the renovation of the chancellor's residence in Berlin and hile the work was given to Hitler's own architect Paul Ludwig Troost. However Speer was put in charge of the overall supervision of the work. Hitler became a regular visitor to these worksites and during these visits he began to get to know a young Albert Speer. Hitler became impressed with his skills as an architect and also the way he spoke his mind in matters of design.
